This textile showcases the renowned Nishijinori weaving technique known as Hikihaku, which uses weft threads that are made by finely cutting the Haku into threads. Haku is Washi paper embellished with materials such as lacquer, gold, or silver. The Haku in this piece is crafted by applying silver leaf to Washi paper and coating it with black lacquer. Whilst the lacquer is wet, oil is dripped onto the lacquer, causing it to be repelled and revealing the silver leaf beneath it. This unique technique creates soft, delicate dots depicting water droplets.
