This textile showcases the renowned Nishijinori weaving technique known as Hikihaku, which uses weft threads that are made by finely cutting the Haku into threads. Haku is Washi paper embellished with materials such as lacquer, gold, or silver. The Haku in this piece is crafted with sulfurated silver. During the sulfurization process, the color of the silver transitions into gold, then to brown, red, purple, blue, and finally to black. Having reached its final hue, the silver leaf is sprinkled and pasted like sand. The varying grain sizes create a piece of fabric that evokes a feeling of grandeur and sentimentality.
