This textile is known as Sukui and is characterized by its rustic texture, using threads with an uneven thickness. Unlike conventional textiles in which the weft and warp threads are woven perpendicularly, the uneven weft threads in this piece are loosely passed through the warp allowing for an abstract depiction of a sea of clouds spreading across the sky. The clouds are outlined and accentuated with the use of lustrous threads.
