This textile showcases a mixed weave of silk warp and finely cut and twisted Washi paper for the weft. Fabrics woven from paper like Washi are known as Shifu. These have long been valued since ancient times for their distinctive texture and for being lightweight yet durable. This piece uses a derivative weave to showcase a grid pattern, with thicker threads used to accentuate the intersections of the grid.
