This handwoven textile is crafted using the Tsuzureori weaving technique. It uses a slit method, in which the weft threads are turned back midway, instead of passing all the way through from one side to another, thus creating gaps in the weave. In this piece, the warp threads are divided into bundles to create blocks. Each block is then woven independently by returning the weft thread around the last warp in the block, thus creating long strips of woven fabric. Gradually each strip begins to twist and flip over, and this point of turn can be controlled. Repeating this process for each block creates a three-dimensional undulation, which, when viewed collectively, resembles water in a flowing river.
