This textile showcases the traditional Japanese Samekomon [shark skin pattern], which uses dots to depict a design derived from the Ågimonyo [folding fan pattern]. Chenille yarn is used to depict the pattern, introducing a soft, three-dimensional appearance. The base of the pattern, between the dots, is woven with lustrous Hakuito [a thread made from finely cut Washi paper embellished with materials such as lacquer, gold, or silver], creating a design reminiscent of shimmering lights reflected in waves. This shimmer appears and disappears depending on the angle of view, accentuating the three-dimensional allure of this textile.
