This textile showcases the renowned Nishijinori weaving technique known as Hikihaku, which uses weft threads that are made by finely cutting the Haku into threads. Haku is Washi paper embellished with materials such as lacquer, gold, or silver. The Haku in this piece is coated with black lacquer and adorned with mica to add a lustrous and kaleidoscopic finish. Depending on the angle of view, the fabric thus exhibits a subtle variation of hues, unveiling a spectrum of colors from within the blackness.
