This textile showcases the Iyoroke weaving technique in which the weft threads are woven in a wavy pattern, commonly used for the Mizugoromo [water robes for Noh costumes]. Normally a loom uses an Osa [reed] to weave the weft threads evenly, arranging both the warp and weft threads perpendicularly. However, for this piece, a comb is used instead of a reed to intricately weave the weft threads in an undulating wave, before further manipulation to create spaces between each wave. This method results in a unique translucent effect that sets it apart from other methods of weaving.
