I-22
This translucent textile portrays a series of mountain ranges. This piece combines a subtle gradation of the slub yarn and Hakuito [a thread made from finely cut Washi paper embellished with materials such as lacquer, gold, or silver], together with the Fuutsuu weaving technique, in which two types of fabric with different patterns are woven together in a tube-like structure. Within the double weave sections, the weft threads are woven in a pattern that allows for unrestricted movement of the threads. When held to the light, the threads sway, altering the appearance.
